Ford has just revealed its fastest Mustang to ever come out of the factory, the 2018 Ford Mustang Cobra Jet. This track only variant pays homage to the original Mustang Cobra Jet which debuted 50 years ago at the 1968 NHRA Winternationals. The Cobra Jet will be limited to just 68 examples, each will be able to reach a top speed of 150 mph with a mid 8 second quarter mile time.
The Cobra Jet itself has a significant history when it comes to the Ford Mustang. The original Mustang Cobra Jet debuted back in 1968 was also a limited edition with just 50 examples produced. The lightweight Mustangs were powered by 335hp engines which helped the Mustang win the Super Stock class at the ’68 NHRA Winternationals.
The new Mustang Cobra Jet will be powered by a special 5.2-liter version of Ford’s 5.0-liter V8 together with a re-engineered 3.0-liter Whipple supercharger. Ford is using a 9-inch solid rear axle, two-way coil-over shocks with adjustable ride height and a low-drag disc brake system, four-link rear suspension with antiroll and panhard bars. They are not playing around when it comes to performance.
Ford will fit an NHRA-certified safety roll cage, FIA-certified seats and anniversary-badged racing wheels. Colors available on the Cobra Jet are either Race Red or Oxford White, also include exclusive 50th Anniversary graphics and badging. Lucky clients able to get their hands on one will pay around $130,000 for the right to own the fastest Mustang of all time!
The Cobra Jet really exemplifies the perfect track ready Mustang, for those serious about the car, get in line because this limited edition Ford Mustang for sale will be in high demand.
